About this event

Community • City & Town

Heritage Open Days is England’s largest festival of history and culture, and we're celebrating by offering FREE tours of Luton Town Hall for the public.

Opened in 1936, the town hall that stands today is not the original. The first town hall, built in 1848, was burned down during the Peace Day Riots in 1919. The current town hall was erected in 1936, and still stands in Luton town centre today, complete with art-deco interiors and ornate committee rooms and chambers.

On this tour, you'll have access to areas of the town hall that aren't often open to the public, like the Silver Room, Mayor's Parlour (tbc) and the Council Chamber.

The tours will cover the history of the town hall, Luton Borough Council and our civic heritage.
