Heritage Open Days at The Portico
Special Opening Hours:
Saturday & Sunday, 10am - 5pm
On Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th of September you can enjoy the surrounds of The Portico Library during special opening hours. Visitors will be given access to all areas of the library, some of which are normally restricted to just members, researchers and readers. You will be in awe of the beautiful Georgian interiors and fascinated by our 19th century collection of books. If all of this tempts you to want to join our wonderful library, we will be offering a 10% discount on new memberships.
We will also be running ticketed tours of the library. Please note that guided tours start from Manchester Art Gallery and your guide will begin with a short history of the old Georgian streets in the vicinity, moving on to The Portico Library for an in-depth exploration of its collection, curios and characters. The tour will be led by the inimitable Ed Glinert, well-known Manchester tour guide and author of the Manchester Compendium (Penguin).
The Portico Library's cafe and exhibition space is open to visitors all year round. Further information and our regular opening hours can be found here.
