Event description

Description

Join us on a tour of the Lancashire County Museum Service conservation studios where sculptures, paintings, archaeology, textiles, and taxidermy are carefully cleaned and restored. Saturday 10 to 4pm and Wednesday 6 to 8pm

The Lancashire Conservation Studios are set within the Victorian church of St Mary’s. Many of the original stained glass panels, war memorials and architectural details have been kept and have been incorporated into the modern conversion. Built in 1836, the church was designed by the Preston architect, John Latham, who used the Italian Gothic revival style to inspire his construction.
The tours are led by specialist conservators who will highlight some of the techniques of their job.
At the evening session our Curators will undertake an object identification session if visitors wish to know more about family items.
After the tour, wander through the churchyard with its graves telling the tales of life in this textile town. There are specimen trees, a wildflower meadow and places to sit and enjoy this haven for wildlife.
