Heritage Open Days: Sheffield's Transport Industry & Driving the Simplex
Date and time
Hear about Sheffield's transport industry and see the Sheffield-Simplex cars up close.
About this event
Discover the rise and fall of Sheffield’s motor manufacturing industry, from local firm Durham Churchill, who made friction clutches for race cars, to the stunning Sheffield-Simplex cars – described by The Times as ‘one of the best and most remarkable vehicles available, representing the highest point to which motor design has yet attained’.
Head of Historic Engineering, Eddy Foster, will share his experiences of driving the Sheffield-Simplex cars and explain how the historical engineering team restore and maintain them. You’ll also be able to see up close the original blueprints for the car, which we will get out of the collection store specially for Heritage Open Days.
