Event description

Description

Speaker: Fergus Sutherland, Icosse Heritage Consultants
Date: Tuesday 23rd May
Time: 6pm
Location: Dining Room, Mackintosh Suite, House for an Art Lover

The Empire Exhibition held in Bellahouston Park in 1938 was the fourth of the five great exhibitions held in Glasgow between 1888 and 1988. Between them, they attracted almost 43 million visitors and brought the world to our city. In this talk we will look at the good, the bad, and the sometimes ugly aspects of these great events and how they reflected the way Glasgow and Scotland changed over the years. This talk is part of the South Side Fringe Heritage Programme.

Our Heritage Programme has been kindly supported by Glasgow City Council, Hugh Fraser Foundation, William Mann, Glasgow City Heritage Trust, Trades House Commonweal Fund and House for an Art Lover.
