This wonderful group of passionate women is working to share with you the stories, heritage and history of Wakefield.
Come along to this poular event and hear exciting tales of murder, mystery and all manner of interesting tales of Wakefield and its people. This is the final opportunity to experience this tour in 2025.
As a Dream Time Creative production we bring our expertise, passion and love of a good costume to the streets of Wakefield for your delight and delectation.
The fabulous volunteers have selected their highlights and best bits from some of our most popular tours. Join the team to experience 'Murder and Mayhem' covering the team's favourite historical and gruseome tales, just in time for Halloween. Hear some incredible tales to amuse, delight and shock. You are welcome to ask as many questions as you like during the tour. This tour will last approximately 90 minutes, but you should allow up to 2 hours. There is so much to share with you. All for the great price of £10.
This is a gentle, ambling walk (with some uphill sections) and the route is wheelchair friendly. But do expect it to be cold in October and wrap up warmly.
If you'd like to join us for this special event we will gather at Pemberton House, Westgate at 6.30pm on Thursday, 30 October, where our tales of Wakefield begin.
Death rituals, brutal murders and animal escapes are just some of the fascinating stories from Wakefield's incredible past that you will hear about on this immersive heritage tour by the ‘Round Our Way’ Team.
Incorporating iconic Georgian buildings, blue plaques, darkened streets and dangerous corners this walk will thrill you with its content and keep you talking about what you’ve learnt long afterwards.
An entirely volunteer led Dream Time Creative Production, our walks are delivered by women passionate about his and herstory, with infectious enthusiasm for storytelling, an interest in the dark and mysterious, a dramatic flair when delivering and look great in historical costumes!
Your tour will start promptly and we kindly ask that you arrive 5 to 10 minutes before the start time. You will find us on Westgate outside Pemberton House, opposite the Elephant and Castle public house. You can also find us using what3words sang.sings.fields
This is an outdoor event and will take place whatever the weather. Wear appropriate clothing and footwear suitable for city walking.

Raising funds for Blue Plaques for Women
This event is one of a series of walks and talks, all being done to raise money for blue plaques for women. Did you know that each new plaque costs between £700 and £800? There are currently around 35 plaques with dedicated female names in Wakefield, which makes us the top city in the UK to recognise our Forgotten Women BUT there are lots more women whose stories need to be told and acknowledged. Hear about some of them on the tour and help us to raise the much needed funds for our next project.
Learn more about the Forgotten Women of Wakefield to see how important it is that women are recognised, and help Wakefield to become the first city with true blue plaque parity.
You'll hear about plans to celebrate two more women with their blue plaques in time for International Womens' Day in early 2026
Make a Donation
If you like what we do and would like to make a donation it would be very gratefully received. This is an entirely voluntary project and money raised goes towards future blue plaque projects. Choose 'donation' at the checkout
