Event description

Description

As football teams across the UK prepare for their last games of the season, we'll be celebrating the history of women's football with an early afternoon, family screening of Bend it like Beckham.

Join us to learn more about the Dick Kerr Ladies, who drew crowds of over 50,000 spectators when they used to play in the 1920s. There'll be a short talk by Gail Newsham, historian and expert in the history of women's football, as well as rare archive footage of the team playing.

The event will finish promptly by 3pm, to allow time to catch the final games of the season.

All under 18s must be accompanied by an adult.

Film Description:

A comedy about bending the rules to reach your goal, Bend It Like Beckham explores the world of women's football, from kick-abouts in the park to freekicks in the Final. Set in Hounslow, West London and Hamburg, the film follows two 18 year olds with their hearts set on a future in professional soccer.
