Event description

Description

Herstory is a series of events running throughout the exhibition, ‘Unconscious Landscape. Works from the Ursula Hauser Collection’, where we invite inspirational women from the art world to share their stories, initiatives, and inspirations. Each event begins with a glass of wine on the Roth Bar & Grill terrace, followed by an informal talk in the gallery’s bookshop.

We are delighted to welcome Professor Anita Taylor, an artist, writer and the Executive Dean of Bath School of Art and Design. Last year, to mark the anniversary of the Women’s Movement, Anita Taylor established The Girl Friday Breakfast Club with colleague Kate Reynolds to provide a friendly and informal space for women to meet, chat, and support each other.

For this event Anita Taylor will talk about the success of the Girl Friday Breakfast Club, sharing anecdotes from past events and explaining why creating this space for women is important.

As an artist Taylor exhibits her work nationally and internationally, and works are held in the collections of the Victoria and Albert Museum; The Wilson, Cheltenham; Royal West of England Academy; The Jerwood Foundation, Jerwood Gallery, Hastings; National Art School, Sydney, Australia; University of Gloucestershire; University of Sunderland; Leicestershire Collection for Schools and Colleges; Leeds Education Authority; Royal College of Art.

She is the founding Director of the Jerwood Drawing Prize project, the pre-eminent annual open exhibition for drawing in the UK and the co-author of Drawing (Cassell Illustrated, 2003). She has contributed articles for publications that include The Guardian, Craft Arts International and Garageland, and has contributed to a number of key publications on drawing.

This is a free event, but must be booked in advance.
