Hertford is a stunningly beautiful and historic County town with lots of links to London, hundreds of listed buildings, four rivers, some fantastic pubs and it is just 50 minutes by train from Moorgate or Liverpool Street.
During our afternoon we'll wander through the town, see the end of the navigable Lee River, the remains of a Castle which was the country retreat of numerous monarchs and one time home to Parliament. We'll pass many examples of 15th and 16th century architecture and an amazing 19th Century brewery. We will also look at the miniature local version of a Georgian “Egyptian Hall”, as well as the splendid Adam Shire Hall and much much more. En route we will refresh ourselves in four of the loveliest pubs in the area.
After the tour you'll have time to return to anywhere that caught your eye, shop in the local market, browse the numerous independent shops or have a meal in one of the excellent local restaurants.
The group size will be kept deliberately small, a maximum of ten people, to encourage a convivial and chatty atmosphere.
This tour will last approximately 4 hours.
The tour starts near Hertford North Station and finishes near Hertford East Station.
The tour is fully accessible but there are some kerbs and narrow pavements, please contact me if you want to talk in more detail about accessibility.
This walk is not suitable for under 18s on account of the pub stops.

Discovering London with Peter Berthoud
I am an award winning, fully qualified and fully insured City of Westminster Guide and a member of the City of Westminster Guide Lecturers Association.
My tours are informative, fun, flexible and inclusive. I offer some public walks (such as this one) but the majority of my time is spent writing and delivering personalised tours, for families, companies and educational organisations.
My walks are all available for booking by private groups or individuals. I can tailor any tour to your requirements, make them shorter, longer, include pub stops or finish near a restaurant in the area for example.
The shortest bookings I generally accept are for one hour, the longest for one week.
I can help you to plan tours in minute detail weeks beforehand or I love nothing more than working with a brand new group, on the day itself, to develop a truly unique and spontaneous tour!
