A Wild Food Walk

An introductory walk to foraging and wild plant medicine, including homemade snacks and drinks from foraged food.

start to open your eyes to the world around you and learn about native plants and trees and how they can be used as food and some of their uses in traditional herbal medicinal.

Due to the location of the walk, it does not focus on mushrooms but on all the other amazing wild plants and trees.

Located in Borehamwood, Hertfordshire, just 30 minutes from central London.

Also included is a chance to taste some snacks and drinks made from foraged food.

  • Time: 3.00 Hour Walk
  • Introducing you to the local wild plants and trees
  • Learn about wild food & foraging guidelines
  • An oppertunity to harvest a small selection of plants, fruits and seeds depending on the season.
  • Find out about some of the traditional uses of plants for herbal medicine
  • Sample some wild food and drink treats such as soup, cordials, alcoholic elixirs, cake and other snacks made from foraged food.
  • This walk will cover around 20 wild plants, including trees, herbs and shrubs.
  • Start to recognise different local plants with simple techniques using all of your senses.

Katy is passionate about nature and is keen to introduce people to this amazing world. She has been foraging for over 10 years and is self taught. She has also studied Sensory Herbalism.

Children are welcome and the walk is fun and interactive, but please be aware that the content of this is walked is aimed at Adults. To be able to show you a diverse range of trees and plants the walk will be at a speed to ensure we cover a wide area and is over 2 hours long. If you have children who would enjoy this, but might not be able to keep up with the pace or length of the walk, please reach out to discuss this further.

How do I get there?

It is 13 minute walk from Elstree and Borehamwood Thameslink Station and you can also park nearby. Just inside the boarders of Hertofdshire, there is easy access from London and the Home Counties.

What is the walk like?

The walk is on paths and fields which are flat. It can be muddy depending on the weather.

Do I get to try some food?

Drinks and snacks made from foraged ingredients will be provided for you to taste. It often turns into a mini picnic as I get carried away with bringing things for you to taste.
