The uplifting and triumphant stories of the brilliant black women who made the white man’s mission to space possible. Based on real life events, Hidden Figures follows the stories of three mathematicians who defied gender and race barriers to rise through the ranks of NASA and play a vital role in its Space Programme.

"Hidden Figures" is empowerment cinema at its most populist, and one only wishes that the film had existed at the time it depictsPeter Debrugefor Variety

The screening will be followed by a panel discussion reflecting on the (under)representation of black women and women of colour on screen and in the media industry.

Join us afterwards for a free drinks reception and DJ set in the Cafebar. 1960s themed fancy dress is encouraged - dig up your best frock for a chance to win 2 adult tickets to the National Space Centre!

Reel Equality members receive an exclusive discount for this screening.

Brought to you by Equation, a Nottingham charity working against domestic abuse, in collaboration with Journey to Justice: Nottingham, a local group working alongside the nationally oriented Journey to Justice charity to inspire and empower people to take action for social justice through learning from human rights movements, past and present, and the arts.

Earlier this year, from April through June, Journey to Justice: Nottingham hosted an exhibition at the National Justice Museum which explored the US civil rights movement, its links to the UK, and its wider impact through stories of less well-known men, women and children. The exhibition also illuminated Nottingham’s long and vibrant history of social activism and social justice, uncovering lost histories of local people’s struggle towards freedom and justice. This event forms part of Journey to Justice: Nottingham’s legacy programme, which aims to inspire further activity and activism.
