Friends Who Are Going
Event description

Description

The first ever screening of Border Crossings' new documentary: "Hidden Histories - Discovering Indigenous London", narrated by Oscar-winning actor Mark Rylance.

Responding to last summer's incredible Origins Festival, the film unearths the stories of indigenous people who travelled to London from the 15th century onwards. The extraordinary tales of Pocahontas, Jospeh Brant, Bennelong and Mai are placed alongside indigenous travellers from our own day, offering a timely re-assessment of our city and its relationship to the lands it once colonised.

There will be a Q&A with director Michael Walling, Prof. Graham Harvey from the Open University, and Gabrielle Hughes of the Wampanoag First Nation. Chaired by Peter Kilroy.

Followed by a drinks reception.

Presented with the Menzies Centre for Australian Studies at Kings London.

Film made in collaboration with the Open University, and funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
