Join us to uncover the stories of those who came before, but are hidden in the gendered landscape of the city.

About this event

This guided journey around Oxford will go back in time to highlight the many ways women have historically experienced the urban space and family life, how masculinities have shaped and been shaped by the university, and discuss queer experiences in the city.

Together we will analyse the urban landscape and material culture, discuss gendered geographies, and push against social expectations.

Some themes covered include: nursing and conception of care giving; motherhood and family; the creation of masculinities; old age and femininity; policing women's bodies; intersectionality and queering history.

The tour lasts for 1.5hrs. We will walk no more than two miles, but be aware that cobble stones and uneven pavement may restrict the accessibility of this event.
