Church Action on Modern Slavery and Exploitation in Bristol

Hidden Voices is an exciting ecumenical resource which aims to inform and support local communities in taking action on the challenging issue of Modern Slavery within their own communities.

To develop this process are holding three linked meetings on 23rd March; 13th April, 4th May from 10-12.30 at Church Hall, St Peters Church, The Drive, Henleaze, Bristol BS9 4LD . Future meeting after days/times will be reviewed after these three dates.

Modern Slavery and Exploitation is not just abour car washes and nail bars. Evidence suggest that around a half to two thirds of homeless people have been or will be involved in modern slavery. We know that around 70% of women offering sexual services in Bristol may have been trafficked. Labour exploitation is also rife. The police have made it clear that they cannot prosecute their way out of this problem and need community support.

We know that vulnerability in any form can lead to exploitation. Most churches in Bristol or their members are involved in some form of social action project or outreach so these critically need to be slavery proofed. We will also explore how we can work within our own churches and their wider communities to tackle the issue
