Networking is in my blood – seriously – I inherited it from my grandfather who was a great inspiration; he could make a deal with Russians, Jews, Germans and Polish during the communist era in Poland. Times were tough but he was making a business regardless, and I watched him and secretly admired.

Now it is easier than ever, yet after 12 years in the business and thousands of presentations and meetings, I still see people coming unprepared and unable to raise my interest. And there is more required if we were ever to make a deal and shake hands. One thing for sure: the know-how is out there if you are willing to reach for it, however, the risk is that you could reach that extra deal.

The Art of Self-Presentation – How to convey your strengths and influence people with your behaviour

Self-presentation - or impression management as social psychology calls it – is about directing your behaviour in a goal oriented fashion. I know it sounds nerdy so I’ll cite my professor to put it simply: life is a play, you are the actor and the world is your scene. On myjourney, I played few hundreds of gigs across the country having tons of fun along the way, so I find this words to be profoundly true.

Why I treat self-presentation as the art? Because the way we look, we walk, we speak: everything about us sends a message to the recipients. The upside is that we are all good at reading such messages, however, only very few can actually understand its meaning. And while reading others is easy, the real challenge lies inside: imagine what you could change knowing what your body language reveals about yourself?
