OVERVIEW OF THE EVENT

The High Peak Independent Film Festival is a four day film festival taking place from the 14th to 17th June in New Mills, High Peak. The High Peak Independent Film Festival is a non-for-profit film festival that celebrates shorts and feature films from filmmakers, of all ages, around the world. We aim to showcase the best of up and coming, independent filmmakers across four fantastic days. Our aim is to provide a programme which showcases the very best of international and national independent film.

New Mills is a beautiful town, situated in the High Peak, north of England. It's 45 minutes away from the thriving city of Manchester and easily accessible by all public transport. The historic town lies at the confluence of the rivers Goyt and Sett, close to the border of Cheshire. The town stands above the Torrs, a 70 feet (21 m) deep gorge, cut through Woodhead Hill Sandstone of the Carboniferous period. It is on the north-western edge of the Peak District, England's first national park. It has a population of approximately 10,000.

Situated in the town is the fantastic, and very famous, Swizzles Matlow! Yes, you'll know them for their Love Hearts, Rainbow Drops and Double Dip (and more!).

In our inaugural year, we showcased 51 films and 4 events across three and a half days at New Mills Art Theatre and across the town of New Mills. In our second year, we aim to grow and have more events. This year, we are having lots of fantastic events and showcasing some of the best talent from around the world.

THURSDAY 14th JUNE

We kickstart the film festival with a 10 hour film challenge from 9am, giving our filmmakers 10hrs to create and edit a short film, ready for premiering at 7pm! The challenge will help filmmakers work in teams and come up with a creative idea under pressure. Filmmakers will be put into teams.

Then, at 8.30pm, the doors will open to a big audience for a special edition of Quizit! (Entry is £1 on the door, tickets can't be bought online and are not included in the festival pass).

FRIDAY 15TH JUNE

We begin our first day of film screenings at 10.30am on the Friday with an outstanding programme of films from around the world. Films will be confirmed in May 2018. We also have a fantastic casting workshop with Backstage, fantastic for actors and filmmakers who want to learn more about casting. Following this, there will be a small networking event (venue TBC) hosted by the High Peak Independent Film Festival and Backstage.

To top off the evening, we have a fabulous film-themed brass band night brought to you by Tideswell Band.

SATURDAY 16TH JUNE

Our second day of film screenings kickstarts at 10.30am on the Saturday with an outstanding programme of films from around the world. Films will be confirmed in May 2018. We also have a great panel hosted by SMMS and Women in Film and TV.
