Event description
This online conference will explore how industry, educators and trainers collaborate to develop and deliver High Speed Rail (HSR) globally.

About this Event

The key question addressed by the conference High Speed Rail: Education Interchange (HSR:EI) is how research and education can continue to support the development of HSR, to widen the revolution in mobility and decarbonise transport systems globally and in the UK. Despite the current transport paralysis due to Covid-19, High Speed Rail Projects are progressing in many parts of the world, including the HS2 project in the UK.

Delegates will share knowledge on current research, initiatives. innovations and best practice and international knowledge transfer drawing on their experiences. They will discuss the challenges facing project sponsors, universities, railway businesses and the wider supply industry, and opportunities for collaboration.

Background

The International Seminar for Railway Education and Training held at the University of Birmingham in 2018, made progress on identifying education and training challenges, best practice and international collaborative opportunities within the metro and mainline railway industries. The rapid development and planned expansion of HSR networks across the globe means that railways will continue increase their share of rail traffic, and this will require specialised educational support for effective delivery.

There is now a clear need and opportunity to tailor education and research to the particular needs of the HSR sector. Of the courses available across the globe, typically in railway engineering, operations and economics, there are only limited opportunities to study HSR and its challenges. With the honourable exception of China, the research underpins HSR development is either within the key suppliers or commissioned for particular challenges. This conference invites stakeholders from across the world to share their challenges, experience and ideas for the future, to create a platform for future collaboration in research and to help shape future education.

This exciting conference will include keynote speeches from industry leaders, paper and poster presentations, panel discussions and networking to explore the variety of issues, beneficial relationships and future opportunities that arise between the HSR and Educational sectors.

Call for abstracts now open, formal registration opening soon.

Programme

High Speed Rail: Education Interchange will be held in half-day sessions over three days, providing an international forum for railway, education and training stakeholders to present and discuss current research, initiatives and best practice. This will include challenge round tables, where experts answer audience questions on how to address the challenges facing the HSR sector.

Delegates will have opportunities to connect and engage with the keynote speakers, presenters and each other through virtual networking.
