About this Event
Over 60 universities and colleges will be represented from on-Island, the UK and further afield on the Higher Education Fair website.
Skills Jersey will be hosting a range of live talks for students and parents across the week that present a real opportunity for you to make an informed decision be it on island, UK, Europe or further afield. We encourage you get involved and ask those important questions.

Monday 15 March from 6pm: University live sessions
- 6PM: UCAS process - For anyone planning to start university, this session will cover the UCAS timeline and will include tips on how to prepare for your higher education journey including attending open days and what happens to your application once submitted. (Coventry University)
- 6PM: Maintaining health & wellbeing - This webinar will focus on the importance of maintaining your health and wellbeing whilst studying at university, and the sources and facilities on hand for you to use. (Liverpool Hope University)
- 6.30PM: Studying a Psychology degree and careers it can lead to - Psychology is the science of understanding people, and why they think and act in the ways that they do. In this session we will explore the fantastic careers opportunities that a degree in psychology can open up for you. (AECC University College)
- 6.30PM: From Creative degrees to creative careers: An insight to career possibilities - Did you know that the UK creative industries accounted for more than double the number of jobs created across the UK economy (pre COVID-19 pandemic). Arts University Bournemouth (AUB) is well renowned for the Art, Fashion, Textiles, Film Production, Animation and Photography (and more!) career prospects that await their graduates. There’s a big world of possibilities out there. Join us and get an insight into what exciting careers you could have plus hear about the occupations of some of our talented alumni. - 7PM: Careers in sport: More than PE - This talk looks at jobs within the sports industry, what those jobs entail, and what students would need to study in order to get those jobs. Covering a variety of roles, from Biomechanist to Sport Development Officer, whatever your sports interest, the session will show you different careers and help you discover the path to achieve them. - 7PM: Curious cases and the careers in Law - Studying Law for future careers - The aim of this talk is to inspire students to study Law at University through the presentation of the odd, the curious and the fun. The talks will cover: The depiction and presentation of curious cases and how they developed our legal understanding, the ‘how’ and the ‘why’ of studying law at Higher Education and future careers with law. - 7.30PM: University in Australia and New Zealand - Study Options will talk through the opportunities available at universities in Australia and New Zealand. What are the key differences to be aware of? Why do UK students choose to study Down Under? And how does the application process work? (Study Options)
- 7.30PM: Study in the USA, Canada or Europe - Come and find out about the key features of international university applications, covering the key features of applications to Europe, North America and beyond. (University Guys)
- 7.30PM: What can be gained from a gap year - This event is an opportunity for students to hear about the benefits of taking a gap year and the different opportunities a gap year can be made up of, an insight into what’s involved in a Raleigh Expedition and the skills they can gain from the experience. - 6PM: Routes into teaching - This talk is for students who are interested in training to become a teacher, either Primary or Secondary. The talk will take students through options for Undergraduate routes and Postgraduate routes including gaining experience, bursaries, personal statements and the interview process. University of Brighton staff will also be available throughout the session to answer any questions you may have. (University of Brighton)
- 6PM: Raising aspirations for parents, carers and guardians – What’s university all about? Whether your child is wanting to apply to university or wondering if it’s the right choice for them, come along and find out about the range of choices available and why it might be their biggest motivator to achievement. - 6.30PM: Why Russell Group and how to apply - During this presentation Glenn will give an overview of the 24 universities in the Russell Group. We will consider what it means to be ‘research intensive’ and how this benefits students. We will also explore what is meant by selective universities and how they assess applications before moving on to how students can start their research into choosing the right course and university and importantly how to prepare for a successful application. - 6.30PM: Medicine - Join this live event, delivered by Medicine Student Ambassadors from The of University of Southampton, as they guide you through five key things to know about Applying to study Medicine at university. (University of Southampton)
- 7PM: Degree apprenticeships - Interested in working and studying in tandem? A Degree Apprenticeship is a relatively new route into higher education combining employment with part-time study. This session explores how to apply and how they run. (Liverpool John Moores University)
- 7PM: Music and dance: What are the differences between University & Conservatoire study - What is a 'conservatoire'? And what are the main differences between studying performing arts at a university or a conservatoire? This session, led by Hannah Dickinson, Head of Student Recruitment and International Relations Office at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music & Dance will explain the main differences and h and how to navigate the application process. - 7.30PM: Games and computing - Games and creative computing are transforming how we experience the world and are driving the development of new technologies. From game art and web development to coding and VR, at Falmouth you’ll get a head start in this competitive industry by learning from industry leaders and develop real products with team members who live and breathe games and computer science. Falmouth University’s Game Academy is rated by the Princeton Review as in the top 40 in the world (top three in Europe) for undergraduate games design. (Falmouth University)
