Event description
Our higher education specialists understand the key challenges that institutions are currently facing.

About this Event

Throughout the year we will be holding roundtables to discuss these key challenges; providing examples and good practice advice on how you can ensure these issues are managed effectively within your institution. This also poses a fantastic opportunity to network with sector professionals and others from fellow institutions.

Presentations will cover:

Data analytics

Publications that we all read, talk about the future of technology and the volume of data produced in the past, being far exceeded by the volume generated in the last few years; Artificial Intelligence, machine learning and robotics, and in the audit world, data analytics, will transform utilisation of this data. Data analytics is more than an audit tool, and it is successfully used in, and by organisations to review and appraise their data accuracy, trend their data performance and understand the impact different data sets have on each other. In this session we will share our insights on the learning in data analytics as an enabler.

Global growth

Diversification strategies for Universities remain a focal point to support their growth plans in student numbers and international reach. International growth remains underpinned by the requirements of UKVI and compliance therewith and remains a significant risk for Institutions - if found to be non compliant. In this session we will share our insights on what your Institution needs to be looking out for and how best to comply with requirements.

Off-payroll working (IR35) changes ahead

HMRC are currently undertaking reviews of the off-payroll rules in the public sector, targeting amongst others Universities. To recap from 6 April 2017, it is for the Institution which uses the worker’s services to determine whether any payment, made either directly to a contractor working through an intermediary such as a personal service company or indirectly through an agency, should be subject to PAYE and National Insurance Contributions (NICs). Does your Institution consider these rules effectively and have robust procedures in place? In this session we will be joined by Caroline Jones, Employment Tax Specialist from British Universities Finance Group (BUFDG) and Susan Ball, Employer Solutions Partner from RSM who will discuss and recommend top tips.

This roundtable is free of charge to attend; however places are limited so please register as soon as possible.
