Event description

Description

Hilary Wainwright will talk about her current research on international and British economic developments.

She is Research Director of the New Politics Programme at the Transnational Institute, Amsterdam, Senior Research Associate at the International Centre for Participation Studies at the Department for Peace Studies, University of Bradford, and an Honorary Fellow in Sociology at Manchester University. She is co-editor of Red Pepper, and member of the National Advisory Panel of the Centre for Labour and Social Studies (CLASS).

Her research focuses on the emergence of new forms of democratic accountability within parties, movements and the state and she has documented countless examples of resurgent democratic movements from Brazil to Britain and the lessons they provide for progressive politics.

Her most recent writings include the book A New Politics from the Left (2018) and "Forging a 'Social Knowledge Economy': Transformative Collaborations between Radical Left Governments, State Workers, and Solidarity Economies" in the book: From the Streets to the State: Changing the World by Taking Power (2018).
