Universities Ireland, the network of university presidents and vice-chancellors on the island of Ireland, is sponsoring the fifth in a series of conferences to commemorate the centenary of key events in the history of modern Ireland ranging from the Ulster Covenant, through the First World War and the 1916 Rising, to the foundation of the Irish and Northern Irish States in the Conference and Events Venue at Dublin’s Mansion House on 22 October 2016 under the title Reflecting on a decade of War and Revolution in Ireland 1912-1923: Historians on 1916.

The focus of this year’s conference is “Historians on 1916” and will be an opportunity for practitioners to self-reflect on how successful the centenary year has been and on what we have learned?

The keynote speakers will include Dr John Horne, Emeritus Fellow, Trinity College Dublin and Leverhulme Visiting Professor of History, University of Oxford  who will deliver an address entitled The Larger Canvas: 1916 and Ireland's Great War and Professor Roy Foster, Former Carroll Professor of Irish History, Oxford University who will deliver an address entitled Never So Simple And Clear Again: 1916 and post-revolutionary disillusionment.

There will be panel discussion on class and gender including contributions from Mr Pauric Yeates, Professor Geroid o’Tuathaigh, Professor Senia Paseta and Professor Lucy McDiarmaid.
