About this event

Travel & Outdoor • Hiking

Start point: Hawkshead LDNP car park

Length: 4.1km (2.6miles) with 65m (213ft) of ascent

Time: 2 hours (approx.)

Walk grade: 2 (see grade description below)

An short walk around Hawkshead village for visitors who perhaps would not normally consider a guided walk. The route includes the Old Grammar school (where William Wordsworth was educated), St. Michael and All Angels Church, Anne Tyson's cottage (where Wordworth boarded), the site of a nuclear bunker (yes, really), the Courthouse and the Quaker Meeting House and burial ground.

The walk is on pavements, roads and good paths throughout.

Grade 2 walks are around villages and are focussed on a tour of historical and other points of interest. They may include some short ascents and descents. The path surface might be pavements, earth, grass or stone and – while generally firm – it may have some loose or uneven sections, or be soft underfoot after rain. You may also encounter steps, gates and narrow sections. Most of our grade 2 walks are very suitable for families, and some are pushchair friendly (please check route descriptions).

Participants will need to dress appropriately for the weather.

Your confirmation email will include full details - please read it carefully.
