Description

Slavery & Architecture: A Walking Tour of Bristol

This two-hour walk of the city will reassess Bristol landmarks with a view to revealing their often hidden associations with the slave trade, the wider slave economy and the Black presence in Bristol.

We shall begin at the Docks in front of the Architecture Centre, have a look at Prince Street, Queen Square and King Street before going up the the medieval centre of town, return back via Colston Hall and Orchard Street and end up at the Georgian House Museum. Attendees will then have the opportunity to visit the museum independently.

Dr Madge Dresser is our tour guide for the walk. She is Honorary Professor in the Department of Historical Studies at the University of Bristol and Senior Research Fellow in the Department of Arts & Cultural Industries at the University of the West of England. She has published and broadcast widely on the themes of slavery and its legacy in Britain.

Meeting Point: The Architecture Centre, 16 Narrow Quay, Bristol BS1 4QA

Cost: £10 members, £15 non-members
