Shorncliffe Trust Light Brigade Lectures

Come join us at the The Kincaid Gallery at The Riflemans Museum

Immerse yourself in the rich history of the Light Brigade and gain insights into their heroic endeavors.

Complimentary Tea and Coffee will be available on arrival at 10.00 AM

Lunch is not included but is available either on site or in the town

The day also includes free entry to the museum.

The morning focusses on war and the role of Shorncliffe in the late 18th early 19th Centuries

The talks include the British Napoleonic amphibious warfare by eminent historian, Dr Stephen Summerfield, author of many books on Waterloo, logistics, artillery and the armies of the period.

Followed by a show and tell session, with handling of items, giving insight to how the armies were kitted out, armed and fed.

The afternoon focusses on the 210th anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo. Splitting the group into two, one group will receive an illustrated talk by Christopher Shaw on the unfolding events of the 18th June 1815 featuring the Waterloo Diorama at the Museum. The second group will enjoy a talk by Susan Law and Dr Stephen Summerfield on the Light Brigade at Waterloo.

There will be a question and answer session at the end of the day

Books by the Trust will be available to purchase on the day.

Is there Disabled Parking at the Museum

There are limited Disabled Parking spaces for Badge Holders at the Museum, a pass must be collected from inside the museum, and placed in the car on arrival.

Is there public Parking at the Museum?

No. There is Central Car Parking at Winchester Tower St, Winchester SO23 8TA 8 Gladstone St, Winchester SO23 8TQ These are quite expensive for all day.

Are there Parking Alternatives?

Is there an age limit?

There is no age limit, but is unsuitable for very young children. Those under 16 should be accompanied by an adult.

Is there access for the disabled?

Yes although the talks are upstairs the Museum has a stairlift to gain access to it
