History Day

About this Event
Katharine More's four young children were banished to America on the Mayflower in 1620 by her angry husband who suspected that the father was not him but local yeoman farmer, Jacob Blakeway. Three historians explore aspects of this story: the Mores and their arranged marriage; religious intolerance in England; the American colony. In the afternoon, visits may be made to two historic local houses: Shipton Hall and More Hall and to Shipton Church where the children were baptised.
Jointly organised by the Friends of Shropshire Archives and Shropshire's Mayflower Children Committee.
