What will this course cover?
This course will examine the final centuries of Roman rule in Britain, focussing on the political, military and cultural changes that led to the province's collapse in the early 5th century. You will explore the transition from Roman to post-Roman society, considering archaeological evidence, written sources and the debates surrounding this pivotal moment in British history.
What will I get out of this course?
You will gain an understanding of the factors that contributed to the fragmentation of authority in Britain. Discover insight into how daily life, trade, religion and identity shifted during this transformation alongside learning historical texts/artefacts to reconstruct the past.
What level is the course and do I need any particular skills or experience?
This course is entry level - no prior knowledge of Roman or medieval history is required.
What do I need to bring with me?
Nothing but curiosity, an open mind and a willingness to explore the rich history of Roman Britain. You may wish to bring a notepad and pen to jot down your thoughts.
