Event description

Description

Discover the world where witches, familiars and magic entwine. From the modern day practices of ‘white’ witches to cunningfolk and their anti-witchcraft charms, we’ll travel through the ages stopping at key points in British history that shaped the witch as we know her today. We’ll look at local influences such as the emergence of Wicca and the last ‘witch’ to be tried in England. You’ll also learn of the local legend of Kate Hunt and her shapeshifting abilities.

We will take a journey to the Burning Times when witch-hysteria spread throughout Europe, with thousands of women being burnt at the stake or hung from the noose. But from the ashes, evidence suggests that witchcraft was not all it seemed. Taking witchcraft further back still and looking at elements of witchcraft and folklore that have survived the passage of time, we arrive at its ancient origins and its relevance in today’s world.
