History Training Seminar - Monday 24 April 2017
Mon 24 April 2017, 16:00 – 17:30 BST
Training Seminar: How to prepare an article for submission to a Peer-reviewed History Journal: with Alex Shepard and Catriona MacDonald
Prof Shepard was founding editor of Cultural and Social History, lately has been an editor of Gender & History (the foremost journal in its field and one of the most highly-circulated journals in the UK), and is currently on the editorial board of Past & Present.
Dr MacDonald was editor of the Scottish Historical Review from 2010-2014; edited the ‘Vox Populi’ and ‘How British is Scotland’ series for the Scotsman and Herald, and a range of articles (in conjunction with teachers) for Historic Scotland; and is editor of Unionist Scotland, 1800-1997 (Edinburgh, 1998) and (with E.W. McFarland) Scotland and the Great War (East Linton, 1999).
Both have refereed extensively for national and international journals. In this session, we critically examine editors’ expectations of submissions, what doctoral students can be thinking about in terms of ante-viva article-writing, and what to do with your thesis once it is accepted. After preliminary observations by them, your questions will be taken. This should be a very important event for History doctoral candidates of all years.
