'The world isn't in your books and maps, it's out there' - J.R.R. Tolkien

Whether you're a road runner, trail runner or hillwalker, if you want to try running in the mountains, then this is the Girls on Hills event for you! A full day of guided trail running in Glencoe with experienced, local guides who will give you advice on how to make your transition safely. We'll cover basic navigation, kit, training, nutrition, technique and mountain safety for running in the highland environment.

Sample wild and quiet trails with our local, professional running guides. Routes will depend on the weather and your aspirations but all runners will enjoy the wildness and rugged beauty of the Glencoe/Lochaber area, as we take the 'trail less travelled' through breathtaking mountain scenery.

If you're a beginner, don't worry, you don't have to run the whole time (we do plenty of walking, chatting and stopping to soak up the views)! Hit the Trail is a relaxed and sociable day out with a distance of 8-12km, designed to set you up for your trail running journey. It is a supportive 'safe space' for women and not a boot-camp (any running pace is fine and nobody gets left behind)! To find out more about what's involved visit: www.girlsonhills.com/faqs

Hit the Trail is one of Girls on Hills' 'Access Courses' and as such is perfect for those who feel impacted by barriers to participation. This event is FREE to women who are eligible via our Access Fund criteria. We aim to help as many women as possible experience the many health and wellbeing benefits that come with trail running. We don't include food or accommodation however, allowing you the flexibility to choose your own to suit travel logistics or budget. There is plenty of budget accommodation available locally, such as hostels/ bunkhouses/pods (there will be a list in your booking confirmation).

Our local guides can sometimes offer a shuttle service to/from local accommodation providers, and are committed to making your logistics work. We will also encourage lift-sharing whilst in Glencoe, to reduce environmental impact and pressure on busy parking areas. This course can be accessed by public transport and is walking distance from Glencoe bus stop. Once booked, we will email you at the beginning of event week to confirm final details. This email will also include a kit list, travel options and advice on where to park. We will meet up to check kit and discuss final plans for each day over coffee before we start!

PLEASE NOTE: Fully-funded events like this are high-risk for event organisers, as it's common for participants to book early, then cancel at short notice due to the absence of a financial commitment. Please only book a space with us if you're reasonably confident you will be able to attend (we do of course understand that sometimes life just gets in the way!) Our aim is to make this opportunity available to as many women as possible and avoid waste/empty spaces on the event. This event is financed by our Access Fund crowdfunding campaign. aYour understanding and support is very much appreciated.

We pride ourselves on being 'approachable and relatable' so please do get in touch with any concerns or queries you might have now or nearer to the event. If you are concerned about clothing/kit, please email us (we may be able to lend some items). We look forward to having some fun and showing you some great trail running in the Scottish Highlands!

*Please note that Girls on Hills guides will amend our itinerary according to the weather and may need to shorten the day if conditions are very poor.
