About this Event
This panel has been rescheduled to 6.30pm. The link to watch is: https://youtu.be/4pTQjOkLlHo
Join us for the launch of Gal Kirn's book 'Partisan Counter Archive', in which Kirn selects the most radical art works that emerged within partisan struggle (Yugoslavia) and in the times of socialist Yugoslavia:
'I was in particular interested in the ways how these artworks refracted partisan rupture and echoed it in socialist Yugoslavia, while also how since 1990s this legacy has been demonized, forgotten or merely kept "alive" in nostalgic tokens (commodification of memory). A selection of partisan artworks is based on what I call partisan "surplus", that is, something that avoids being integrated either in socialist archive or later nation-state archives - here my inspiration to all decolonial, deprivatised, denationalised attempts of productive return to emancipatory past is credited, and this is also why the title: partisan counter archive. In the discussion, we would like to detail the frame of Marxist triangulation between politics, art, and memory, in what way can we retrieve and mobilize emancipatory past? Is it just a part of critical, counter-history-making, or can we speak of specific urgency for such counter archive today?'
Gal Kirn will be joined by Agela Dimitrikaki, Esther Leslie and Sezgin Boynik.
