Tax investigation experts Andrew McKenna and Andrew Walker, both Partners at Smith & Williamson LLP are visiting the Island on 15 May and will present to the ICSA members and guests on the topic “HMRC’s focus on offshore jurisdictions” at a CPD event at the Claremont Hotel in Douglas, sponsored by Smith & Williamson LLP.

Tax investigations specialist Andrew Walker previously spent time working with HM Revenue & Customs dealing with suspected serious tax fraud and worked as part of the criminal prosecution group.  Since leaving HMRC he has worked in professional practice acting for a wide range of clients either under investigation or under the threat of investigation. This includes cases with Local Compliance, Charities Assets and Residence, High Net Worth Teams, Civil Investigation or Fraud Teams (CIF), Specialist Investigations (SI) and Revenue Prosecution Office (RCPO). Andrew has successfully guided many individuals through the Liechtenstein Disclosure Facility (LDF) and is a specialist in the UK-Switzerland tax agreement.

Andrew McKenna was previously a senior officer in HMRC working in Special Civil Investigations (now Specialist Investigations), undertaking complicated enquiries into cases of international tax fraud and tax avoidance. A well known expert in tax investigations, he specialises in HMRC’s information powers; particularly bank information notices and information exchange. He has assisted many individuals, trusts and companies subject to HMRC enquiries, negotiating successfully on behalf of his clients to reach pragmatic and beneficial solutions. In addition to this, Andrew proactively advises clients on residency, domicile and business structuring which aims to ensure UK and offshore compliance and that any business and personal tax planning and structuring is implemented to meet the required tax regulatory burdens in the UK and overseas.

Gillian Prestwich, ICSA IOM Chairman, “We welcome Messrs McKenna and Walker to the Island and look forward to their presentation and would like to take this opportunity to thank Smith & Williamson LLP for their sponsorship of this event.”

The event starts at 6pm for 6.15pm. Admission is free to members. Places for non-members (subject to availability) are £15 each.
