HMS Unicorn Forest Community Planting
Overview
We are delighted to welcome volunteers from local communities to come down to Camperdown Park to help us plant a new forest of oak trees as part of our wider initative to preserve the HMS Unicorn - Project Safe Haven!
The HMS Unicorn Forest project aims to accomplish the following:
- Plant 1,000 oak trees in Camperdown Park - representing the approximate number of oak trees required to build HMS Unicorn herself.
- Celebrate Dundee's Maritime Heritage
- Support local biodiversity and Conservation
- Encourage engagement with Dundee's green spaces and foster environmental stewardship
What to Expect on the Day
This will be a friendly, hands-on session guided by the Dundee City Council's Forestry team in how to properly plant saplings - come and join Dundee's wider community and meet some of the HMS Unicorn staff to learn more about Project Safe Haven!
Teas and coffees will be provided for those taking part in the planting!
Know Before you go
- You can book into one of two sessions on the day for FREE - either 10.00 -12.00 pm or 13.00-15.00 pm
- At the start of each session there will be an induction led by the Dundee City Council's Forestry Department - this induction is required for those wanting to help plant on the day
- Please be sure to wear warm layers and study footwear for planting - it will also be muddy!
- Feel free to bring your own gardening gloves or tools if you have them
- Any children attending the event must be accompanied by an adult
