This session is the 7th in a series of virtual, interactive Continuing Professional Development (CPD) events hosted by Humber and North Yorkshire (HNY) Integrated Care System (ICS) for the local optometry community.
The HNY ICB footprint covers 7 Ophthalmology Trust sites as well as multiple Independent Sector Providers. The Optometry profession are the primary care specialists that refer the majority of referrals either directly or indirectly (via GP) to these sites.
As part of the Eye Care Collaboration with Optometry and Ophthalmology we are delivering the sessions to:
· Support and inform the local eyecare workforce,
· Foster relationships between local practitioners, Local Optical Committees and secondary care,
· Provide better eyecare for all.
Each 1.5hr session will consist of presentations delivered by local specialists, followed by time for discussion. The sessions are CPD accredited.
This session will be delivered by Mr Sid Goel. Mr Goel is an experienced Private and NHS Consultant Ophthalmologist) specialising in:
- Advanced cataract surgery including Vision correction Surgery
- Corneal / Anterior Segment surgery &
- Oculoplastic surgery.
Mr Goel is the Corneal Services Lead at Hull University Teaching Hospitals and the Clinical Lead for Eye Correction Centre Clinics UK East Division. He has performed thousands of operations successfully and has excellent patient feedback.
Mr Goel is a keen academic and is regularly invited as an expert speaker to present his experience on his specialist interests. He has 25 publications and over 100 presentations to his name.
Mr Goel's session offers a comprehensive overview of common corneal problems encountered in primary care optometry. It covers essential examination techniques, common conditions like dry eye, keratitis, abrasions, and contact lens-related issues, along with their diagnosis, first-line management, and clear referral guidelines. Each condition is explained with clinical signs, red flags, and when specialist input is needed. The presentation emphasizes practical tips, visual recognition, and decision-making to enhance confidence in managing corneal cases effectively.
The interactive session will help to reinforce the points by using case examples on which there will be live discussions.
