Event description

Description

Half-day workshop to build confidence and expertise around extremism, for teachers and frontline staff.

WHO’S IT FOR?

Teachers and frontline Professionals from one or more organisations working with individuals, children and adults, from the community.

20-25 per group

HDC is for frontline professionals…

  • Seeking to raise awareness and understanding about signs of vulnerability to extremism;
  • Who want to build confidence and experience in managing extreme behaviour as it arises;
  • Who want to develop skills in holding difficult conversations about extremism and conflict and build such activities into their regular working practice;
  • With safeguarding responsibilities.
how’s it work?

The half-day programme of learning covers these key points:

  1. Awareness of the signs of vulnerability to radicalisation and what to do about them.
  2. Understanding of the triggers of extreme attitudes and behaviour and responses to them.
  3. Managing the unexpected conversations or incidents of challenging or concerning behaviour that arise during the day-to-day.
  4. Opening a dialogue challenging prejudice constructively without shutting sensitive discussions down, and developing ideas and content to help ‘counter’ and introduce alternatives to ways of thinking.
  5. Planning for future dialogue – building difficult conversations into sessions.

The approach to learning involves highly interactive group work and roleplaying exercises.

Participants will also learn from each other and network with colleagues.
