‘Holistic Approach to minimising Household Harm’

‘Domestic Abuse and Child Sexual Exploitation Toolkits for Practitioners

Lunch, teas and coffees provided - covered in ticket price.

Aims and objectives:

- Identifying risk in terms of whole family assessments

- Developing effective working knowledge in reducing harm within the household

- Exploring the links between domestic abuse and CSE

- Providing practical and useable toolkits for delegates to use in their day to day practice

Learning outcomes:

- Develop an understanding of current working practices – adopting a multi agency approach - in dealing with domestic abuse and CSE

- Developing an understanding of how these issues impact on differing faiths and communities tackling issues such as under reporting

- Delegates will have the opportunity to attend their own selection of workshops to gain practical skills and knowledge which they can implement in their practice

- Delegates will have the opportunity to explore our extensive market place of related agencies

- Delegates will have the opportunity to network with a variety of other professionals and to gain an in depth understanding of how these agencies can work together to support ‘whole families’

- Delegates will walk away from the day with an in depth understanding of supporting whole families from parent to child in terms of minimising the holistic impact of abuse

- Delegates will also have the chance to develop key skills around managing risk and minimising harm

Draft itinerary for the day

9am to 9.30am – Introduction:

  • Exploring the link between DV and CSE
  • Kids growing up in DV households
  • Victims going on to become revictimised
  • Child witnesses of DV becoming Perpetrators
  • Similarities with victim attachment to perpetrator
  • Challenges with conviction and prosecution for both CSE and DV

9.30am – 10am – First speaker – Leicestershire Police:

  • Reporting- what to report and when
  • What to expect when you report
  • Recent developments in practice

10am – 10.30am – Second speaker – LWA:

  • Supporting survivors who return to perpetrators

11am – 11.30am – Third speaker:

  • Faith and Communities – looking at CSE and DV in diverse communities

11.30am – 12pm – Fourth speaker:

  • Peer Support Group – helping victims to help themselves

12pm – 12.30pm – Fifth speaker:

  • Josiah Hincks - Legal remedies for survivors of household abuse

***LUNCHTIME MARKET PLACE – A number of agencies will have stands – great learning and networking opportunity***

In the afternoon there will be a variety of workshops you can choose from:

  • Looking at DASH assessments & Safety Plans
  • CSE risk assessment tools
  • Whole family assessments specific to abuse
  • Building a safety plan around a family
  • Working with vicarious trauma across the whole family, setting boundaries, healthy relationships, staying safe and the role of the parent
  • Working with drug and substance use to decrease risk.
