Holly Bough - Sunday 20th December
Event Information
About this Event
Come along to our festive service of readings and carols with the procession of the Holly Bough and Christmas trees through the Cathedral.
Listen to our choir sing a range of seasonal carols and hymns in specially devised Christmas Carol Service. It marks the journey from the Crib to the Cross, including the Procession of the Holly Bough.

- Your ‘party’ should only consist of people in your household or bubble.
- Please do not book tickets for anyone outside your household or bubble.

- You’ll only be able to come into the service if you’ve pre-booked your tickets.
- You can book up to six tickets per transaction.
- We know people’s arrangements change so even if the service is fully booked we advise you to keep checking back, just in case a ticket becomes available on Eventbrite.
- You will need to book your ticket 24 hours before the service starts.
- Limited free parking is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
- Holly Bough Service finishes at 16:00.
Please note
- We will be issuing tickets in phases, so we can make sure we can seat each household/family group safely and keep to the government’s physical distancing guidelines. Once we’ve put together a seating plan where we can make sure we can seat people safely, we will issue more tickets until we reach maximum capacity.
If the service is cancelled for any reason, you will be refunded your donation minus the Eventbrite booking fee.

Support Us
- Like many other organisations in the city and beyond, we face an uncertain future. Liverpool Cathedral has lost nearly all of its income over recent months, so your donations are especially needed and welcome to help keep entry to Liverpool Cathedral free to visitors. It will help preserve your heritage for generations to come.
- You can donate when you book your ticket or join us for Holly Bough service with cash or on our portable contactless consoles.
- Find out more about how you can support us on our Donation website pages.
- Did you know, when you buy something from our Cathedral Shop, you’ll be supporting us too?
Thank you for your generosity.
Before the Holly Bough Service
- If you are unable to attend or your party size has decreased, please cancel your ticket as soon as possible.
- If you’re feeling unwell, in a high-risk category, self-isolating or if you or anyone you’ve been in contact with has symptoms of coronavirus, please stay at home and cancel your ticket.
What you need to do when you attend the Holly Bough Service
- You’ll only be able to come into the Holly Bough service if you have booked your tickets.
- Only people in your ‘party’ with booked tickets will be able to come into the Holly Bough service with you.
- Before you come into the Cathedral we will check your booking and take your temperature.
- To make sure we can keep everyone safe we will be allocating seating as people come into the Cathedral for the service.
- You will not be able to reserve your seat before the service.
- We will need to clear the building at 13:45 to get the Cathedral ready for the service. If you are visiting us before the service you will need to leave the Cathedral using the one-way route and join the queue for the service outside.
- A member of our staff will direct you to your seat(s).
- Doors open at 14:00.
- The health and safety measures we’ve put in place means it may take you a little longer than usual to get to your seats. So please make sure you leave enough time to get to your seat.
- You may need to queue outside our building. Please make sure you’re prepared for the British weather!
- You will have to sanitise your hands on your way in.
- You’ll need to wear a face-covering at all times (unless you are medically exempt).
- Please stay in your seat unless you need to use the toilet, or visit our café or shop.
- Our toilet facilities are limited to make sure we can maintain physical distancing. We’ve had to change each toilet block into a single one person/family group toilet facility to make sure you are physically apart from other visitors. This does mean that you may have to queue.
- You’ll need to sanitise your hands before going into and on your way out of the toilet facilities to reduce the spread of coronavirus. Please be patient, kind and responsible.
- If possible, please visit the toilets in your bubble.
- Limited, free parking is available on a first-come, first-served basis. You can find details of alternative parking nearby on the How to Find Us webpage.
- Please do not mix with other households or bubbles.
- Please keep to government guidelines on social distancing. Currently, you cannot meet or mix with anyone outside your household in an indoor setting and maximum group size is dictated by the number of people in your household. You can check the most up to date guidance on GOV.UK website
- Need more information about what we’re doing to keep you safe when you visit us? See the FAQs section on the Visiting Us page which are updated regularly to reflect the current government guidance.
At the end of the service
- Please allow the row behind you to leave first, to maintain physical distancing.
- Please do not mix with other households or bubbles.
