Classical elegance and architectural tricks distinguish Alexander ‘Greek’ Thomson’s finest domestic creation

About this event

We’re delighted to be able to reopen Holmwood House and to welcome visitors once again.

Holmwood is a family home like no other in Glasgow. Located in the Southside of the city, it’s masterfully designed but surprisingly cosy, with grand imagination behind it.

Alexander ‘Greek’ Thomson designed the house for paper magnate James Couper and his wife in 1857–8, and it’s widely regarded as this Scottish architect’s finest domestic creation. His stunning design legacy impresses at every turn.

Holmwood has undergone an incredible conservation project to reveal and restore Alexander 'Greek' Thomson's original vision.

Join us on our new guided tours and learn more about the story of how Greek Thompson created his masterpiece of creativity and design at Holmwood at the end of the 19th century.

We’ve introduced an advance booking system to help manage visitor numbers. Members can book for free and non-members are able to pay when booking.

Visitors that are looking to only visit the grounds and tearoom are not required to book in advance. We look forward to showing you this Scottish design masterpiece!
