Event description
Rupert will discuss holy days and festivals. Then refreshments and brief night prayers in the church.

About this Event

In this evening with Compline, we will be meeting in the Crypt Room of Hampstead Parish Church, as some of us did last month. The evening will start with a chant led by Rupert’s wife, Jill Purce. Then Rupert will talk about holy days and festivals, based on the discussion in his most recent book Ways to Go Beyond and Why They Work, released in paperback on February 6. We will learn how to participate more effectively in these holy days, literally holidays. After a brief explanation of how you can sing plainchant, and a short practice in preparation for compline, there will be a break for refreshments, including wine, and meeting each other, followed by compline at 9.15 pm in the Parish Church. Compline, also known as night prayers, is the last of the daily services in the monastic ‘offices’, dating from the 6th century. It is short (15 minutes), contemplative, and can bring a sense of peace at the end of the day. Compline is open to people of all faiths and none.
