A special day organised for home educators. Enabling families to experience the museum with tours and talks available to school groups.

About this Event

Home Educators Day

This is a special day organised to enable home educators to explore the museum and take part in activities that are available to school groups. The content of the museum is best suited to students aged 10 years and older. There are additional activities for accompanying younger students including a family back pack and 'Osmo' learning games.

All activtives and workshops are included in the entry price. You will be sent a booking form so that you can request activity and tour slots. If no form is recieved after 24 hours please email education@tnmoc.org

You are free to explore the museum at your pace. There will be guides on hand to support your learning. In addition to this, we have organised talks for you to attend at set times. Please see below.

Handling session: Explore the museum's collections and find out how computers have changed over 70 years drop in session throughout the day.

Bombe: See Britain's iconic code-breaking machine designed by Alan Turing and Gordon Welchman. Times are 10:30 -11:00, 11:30 – 12:00, 12:30 – 13:00, 13:30 – 14:00

Valve to Chip: A comprehensive history of computing (1 hour 30 mins). Times are 11:30 – 13:00, 14:00 – 15:30 Please prebook using form.

Power of Primes: Find out how prime number are used in encryption. Minimum age 13. Times are 12:00 - 12:40, 13:00-13:40, 14:00-14:40. Please prebook using form

Presentation Cyber Secuity Extended Project Qualificaton. 11:00-11:30 For students at GSCE level) Qufaro delivers accredited qualifications to fulfil the skills gap in the Cyber Security industry and meet the demands of employers and students. Qualifications include the Qufaro Level 3 Extended Project Qualification (CyberEPQ) in Cyber Security. The Cyber EPQ is the equivalent of ½ an A Level and worth up to 28 UCAS points. The Cyber EPQ qualification is delivered online using the Moodle, a distance learning tools with its content guided by the National Occupational Standards (NOS) and Chartered Institute of Information Security (CIISec) Skills and Knowledge Frameworks. It can be studied through a school or independently.

Sphero Robot’s.Go hands on with the unique and innovative Sphero robots. Take direct control over a Sphero and race around an assault course, attempting to set the best time of the day. You’ll also have the opportunity to test your coding skills as you draw out routes for your robot and use a block based visual programming language (like Scratch) to code the Sphero.
