About this event

  • Event lasts 2 hours

FREE event for home schooling families on Dale beach. We will be using our push nets to explore the shallow waters, finding animals such as shrimp, crabs and juvenile flat fish. Then we will move onto the rocky shore, turning over rocks, looking under seaweed and in nooks and crannies to find a range of creatures from Sea hares to Velvet swimming crabs. At the end of the session, we will gather into a big circle and the Darwin team will tell you all about the days finds, with plenty of time for Q&A’s and practicing your crab handling skills.

Each person attending will need their own ticket. Children are to be accompanied by an adult at all times, children will remain the responsibility of the parent / caregiver throughout the session.

Please wear appropriate clothing for the weather conditions and sturdy footwear that you are able to get wet (old trainers, wellies, wetsuit boots, beach shoes), not flip flops or sliders. You may also need a towel and a change of clothes.

There is a pay and display car park in Dale as well as toilet facilities, a cafe, yacht club and pub. We will meet you on the beach (on the left-hand side as you look at the sea), ready for a 1:00pm start.

If nearer the time you are unable to make it, please cancel your tickets to release them for other people, or drop us an email on darwin@darwincentre.com and we can do it for you.
