Synopsis:

Frankie is a young boy who stands up to his fears, runs away from his difficult home life, and battles the streets of Britain, alone. Crowd-funded over the course of two years, HOMELESS ASHES is the directorial debut of Marc Zammit, who also stars in the film. A striking portrayal of the disenfranchised, the film confronts the viewer with prominent social issues facing Britain today including homelessness, domestic abuse, and drug addiction. The intention of the film is perhaps most evident in its tagline: ‘Homeless, not Invisible’.

Though the film’s subject matter is bleak, it does manage to find moments of warmth throughout by bringing out the sense of camaraderie shared by the homeless characters, as they jointly face the hardships of living on the streets. The character Chico, delightfully portrayed by Lew Temple, provides much-needed comic relief, despite having a tragic backstory. The film’s score masterfully evokes the feelings of solitude and dejection felt by Frankie, while also reflecting the hope that propels him onwards.
