Overview

In this session Cathy will teach delicious, authentic Hong Konger dishes followed by a sit-down, family-style meal.

ABOUT THE CUISINE

Hong Kong cuisine is a vibrant blend of Eastern and Western influences, reflecting its unique history and multicultural community. From delicate dumplings to comforting rice dishes and sweet desserts, each dish combines fresh ingredients with bold, balanced flavours. Meals are social and hands-on, perfect for sharing with friends and family, and offer a taste of the culinary diversity that makes Hong Kong a true food paradise.

ABOUT THE CHEF

A message from chef Cathy:

“Hi My name is Cathy and I am from Hong Kong, located in the southeastern part of China, where a mix of Eastern and Western cultures contribute to the diversity of food culture. Hong Kong has earned the title of the ‘Culinary Paradise” and offers a wide variety of food and international cuisines. My cooking classes are based on this culture, teaching traditional and popular food in Hong Kong.

I learned to cook from my mother and cooked for my younger siblings when I was seven years old. After I got married and had my own kitchen, I was so happy that I could try different cuisines. To me, cooking is definitely an alchemy, turning ordinary ingredients into delicious dishes. Cooking for my family and friends makes me very happy and I would love to share this joy with you”.

Join Cathy’s hands-on, social cookery class in London to learn to make authentic Hong Kong dishes — and celebrate the flavours, skills, and culinary traditions that refugees bring to the UK.

THE CLASS FORMAT

Our cookery classes are family-style – meaning everyone works together to prepare the dishes as a team.

While you’ll be asked to choose one dish to focus on, you’ll have the opportunity to move around the kitchen, help with other dishes, and learn from each recipe. It’s a fun, social, and collaborative way to cook! At the end of the class, you’ll sit down with the chef, class facilitator and volunteers to enjoy the delicious meal you’ve created together.
