About this event
To celebrate the Queen's Jubilee year, the Cabinet Office are running a week of honours related events which will take place virtually from the 14th - 17th June 2022.
Join us to hear the stories from a variety of inspirational honours recipients and special guest speakers, while taking the opportunity to learn more about the UK honours system and how you can make your own nomination for someone amazing.
Explore our range of events, from understanding the honours system in specific sectors (Education, Science & Technology, Community & Voluntary and Health Care), to citation writing workshops, discussions on diversity within the system and other special events featuring fantastic speakers.
Have a chance to ask questions to the team behind the honours system based within the Cabinet Office and to our independent Committee members and access top tips on how you can put together a successful Honours nomination.

Tuesday 14th June 2022
10am - 11am - Introduction to the Honours System and how to Master a Nomination
- Join us for an overview of how exactly the honours system works and how you can make a nomination for someone amazing in your community or workplace!
11am - 11:45am - Introduction to Gallantry Awards
- Would you like to find out more about Gallantry Awards? Find out how are they awarded, who sits on the George Cross Committee and hear the stories of people who have previously been awarded this prestigious Medal
12:15pm - 1:15pm - State Honours Panel, featuring speakers from the Civil Service
- Hear from our panel of amazing recent honours recipients from the Civil Service, who will be sharing the work they did which led up to them being nominated for an award and their personal experience of receiving an honour.
1:30pm - 2:30pm - Who wins an award? Stories from 5 unsung heroes
- Meet five outstanding recent honours recipients who all have amazing stories to share of their work, achievements and experiences of receiving an honour.
2:45pm - 3:45pm - Special Talk: Evolution of the Honours System in the twentieth century
- Tobias Harper is an author, historian and Assistant Professor at Arizona State University, who is an expert in the British Honours System. He will be sharing a history of the honours system throughout the twentieth century, followed by an audience Q&A.
4pm - 5pm - Special Honours Guest Panel
- This Special Guest Panel event will feature some outstanding recent honours recipients from across the UK who will share their stories and experience of receiving an award, along with their thoughts on increasing the number of diverse nominations and the honours system in general.
Wednesday 15th June 2022
10am - 11am - Community and Voluntary Sector Panel
- Hear from our panel of amazing recent honours recipients from the Community and Voluntary Sectors, who will be sharing the work they did which led up to them being nominated for an award and their personal experience of receiving an honour.
11:15am - 12:15pm - How to write a nomination
- Are you ready to begin writing an honours nomination for someone amazing? Join our workshop hosted by the nominations team within the Honours & Appointments Secretariat in Cabinet Office.
12:15pm - 1pm - Top tips and Q&A with Honours Committee Members
- Hear from some of our independent committee members about their roles and experiences as a committee member. They will provide you with top tips on what they like to see in honours nominations and let you know why some nominations are more successful than others.
1pm - 2pm - Health and Social Care Sector Panel
- Hear from our panel of amazing recent honours recipients from the Health and Social sectors, who will be sharing the work they did which led up to them being nominated for an award and their personal experience of receiving an honour.
Thursday 16th June
10am - 11am - Science & Technology Panel
- Hear from our panel of amazing recent honours recipients from the Science & Technology sectors, who will be sharing the work they did which led up to them being nominated for an award and their personal experience of receiving an honour.
12:15pm - 1pm - Let's talk about diversity in the honours system
- Hear from our panel of recent honours recipients from diverse backgrounds, who will be sharing the work they did which led up to them being nominated for an award and their personal experience of receiving an honour. They will also be sharing their views on why it's important to recognise people from all backgrounds and thoughts on the honours system.
1:30pm - 2:30pm - Education Honours Panel
- Hear from our panel of amazing recent honours recipients from the Education sectors, who will be sharing the work they did which led up to them being nominated for an award and their personal experience of receiving an honour.
3:30pm - 4:30pm - Honours in Academia Panel
- Hear from our panel of fantastic honours recipients from the world of Academia and higher education, who will share the work they did which led up to them being nominated for an award and their personal experience of receiving an honour.
