London College of Music BA (Hons) Acting and Theatre-Making presents the You Tube Premiere screening of Hope is Eternal
About this event
As part of UWL Artsfest, Hope is Eternal is a brand new piece of theatre devised by the graduating class of the BA Acting and Theatre-Making course. It is inspired by the epic Sci-Fi poem 'Aniara' by Swedish writer, Harry Martinson. The Martinson family have given special permission to work on a response to 'Aniara', for which he won the Nobel Prize for Literature.
The poem tells the story of a spaceship travelling from Earth to Mars in the near future. The ship is knocked slightly off course and the voyagers have to come to terms with a life floating aimlessly through space, never to set foot on solid ground again.
Sci-Fi as a genre is not explored in theatre anywhere near often enough - as theatre-makers, we have a responsibility to transport our audiences and to reflect life as it really is back at them. This play explores how communities cope with their realities shifting overnight, and what sacrifices they have to make in order to survive. All of us have experiences that relate to the lives of the voyagers on the spaceship Aniara.
