Horizon 2020 Entrepreneurship for Researchers Workshop

Part of: The European Union's Horizon 2020 reaserch and innovation programme, under agreement No 739572

PLEASE NOTE: This workshop is open to researchers and managers from Portuguese universities only!

Are you interested in developing entrepreneurial skills to enhance your career?

This workshop will cover new ways in which leading Portuguese researchers can be accelerated into successful entrepreneurs. It is proposed that this will form an exploratory event to inform the future needs of the Portuguese partner communities, communication the Discoveries CTR project. The overall purpose of the workshop is to be pragmatic, provide a taster of the type of support available to help commercialise research and to inititiate connections amongst the partners who will eventually form the Discoveries Centre in Portugal.

The course will:

  • Be delivered as a 'mini accelerator' and will form the participants into teams and take them through the various stages of commercialisation and start-up building.

Format (duration, etc.)

Taking place over two days, you will need to attend each of the two days to complete the course. There will also be the opportunity for you to network with reserchers and managers from Portuguese Universities.

Programme Dates: Monday 9 July 2018 and Tuesday 10 July 2018

Time: 9.30am to 6.30pm

A networking dinner will take place at the end of day one - Monday 9 July 2018 (venue to be advised). Please note: delegates will need to budget for the cost of their evening dinner and reclaim through their normal channels at home institutions.

About the course

This programme will assist you in recognising and exploring the entrepreneurial skills you use in research. On the first day, there will be a workshop looking at creating a minimum viable product and validating the business model. Workshops thereafter will look at protecting and commercialising intellectual property, what makes a great founder, sales and marketing and funding.

Learning Outcomes

After attending the programme, you will be able to:

  • Build and/or develop your own entrepreneurial skill set
  • Deal with the changing research landscape with more confidence using your entrepreneurial skills.

To apply for the programme you will need to register your details with us here and answer a series of short questions about what you will achieve through attending and how this course will benefit your current role or future career.

The deadline to apply is: Wednesday 4 July, 5pm

This workshop is open to researchers and managers who want to learn how to enhance their entrepreneurial and networking skills.

A maximum of 50 delegates, including seven researchers and three managers from Portuguese Universities are invited to attend.

About the trainer

Paul Dowling - Dreamstake Ventures- Founder

Paul has over 30 years’ experience working with technology companies over a large number of sectors. He has worked with large firms such as Cap Gemini and Vodafone but now focuses on helping data driven health startups with The Crick Institute and Wellcome Trust. He is a regular speaker at startup events and mentors many companies.
