Horizon: Lessons Learnt?

Horizon: Lessons Learnt?

By The Worshipful Company of Information Technologists

Overview

The event features top Horizon inquiry journalists and begins exploring how the IT industry can prevent similar failures.

Join us on Tuesday, 20 January 2026, from 7pm–9pm at the Information Technologists’ Hall (London EC1A) for a joint event hosted by the Archives of IT and the WCIT Ethical & Spiritual Panel.

We will look into what we have learnt so far from one of the UK’s greatest miscarriages of justice. Also known as the Post Office scandal, more than 700 sub-postmasters were prosecuted due to a defective Horizon IT system.

The meeting gives access to the definitive journalistic experts on the Horizon enquiry and will start the discussion of what ethical and practical steps the IT industry should take to avoid this happening again.

Keynote Speakers:
Our keynote speaker is Private Eye Journalist, Richard Brooks, who has authored the definitive book, Post Mortem: the Post Office Horizon IT Scandal, and who pursued the fallout relentlessly. He will be joined by Bryan Glick, the award-winning editor of Computer Weekly who uncovered the scandal. They will be joined by two of WCIT’s distinguished Past Masters, Sir Kenneth Olisa OBE, Lord Lieutenant of London and John Carrington.

Tickets:

£20 (inc. VAT), covering drinks and nibbles for post-session networking.

Online attendees are free however invited to make a donation to the WCIT Charity

Zoom link will be provided closer to the event.
