Event description

Description

Voyage is launching its expanded (10 week) unique Horizons programme now called Horizons Plus.

Horizons Plus is designed specifically for black and minority young males and females aged between 15 and 19 years. Voyage's tutors are culturally aware mentors with a deep understanding of the wider issues in the criminal justice system and they are trained in the area of cognitive behavioural therapy. Our transformative programme presents a comprehensive framework of learning materials drawing on relevant and up to date case studies, explored through role-play and a powerful array of archival film, music and topical discourse. With new funding from the City Bridge Trust, Voyage has partnered with Hackney Community College to come up with an integrated programme combining our cognitive workshops alongside accredited (City and Guilds 6219) work based learning in the following subjects:

  • Motor car/ bike mechanics
  • construction and electrical engineering
  • painting and decorating

Horizons Plus is a dynamic yet highly structured interactive group work programme delivered as a summer intervention scheme as well as a day release programme offered at the college using two intakes. The summer programme will run from Wednesday 16th August 2017 for three days a week over a three week period for 30 young people. We aim be to run another programme over 10 weeks which will start in November TBC. This will consist of one day per week.

For the summer programme, our referral window starts immediately after the information day to allow sufficient time for screening and sign-up. All students participating will be guided towards the creation and implementation of a focused, yet highly personalised development plan. Moreover, they will receive on-going weekly mentoring to assist implementation.

The information day is designed to set out how and when the programme will operate from our new base at the Hackney Community College and there will be a chance to meet the Horizons Team, Hackney Community College tutors and ask any questions about referrals, ongoing mentoring support and our theory of change.

We will also explain how we will manage the referral process, set out our safeguarding, monitoring and reporting procedures and our delivery options for cohorts coming from different parts of London.

The information day is open to various staff roles within the criminal justice system including Young Offending Service commissioning managers, case officers, HMPYOI staff, Pupil Referral teachers, safeguarding managers and Gang matrix Met Police officers.

Kindly contact Voyage should you require more information on 0207 613 8343.
