We’re excited to offer an open invite to everyone to pick up a paint brush and contribute to the inspiring artwork designed by Tom Jackson and Craig Evans.

A large mural titled “The Stories” will be painted on the wall of Goldthorpe Library along the left-hand side of the square.

Tom and Craig – also known as STATIC – will add a smaller artwork to the wall at the rear of the square under the preserved Horse and Groom pub sign.

STATIC drew up the artistic vision after a series of consultation events with people in Goldthorpe and the Dearne, including a drop-in session at The Snap-Tin café.

They held art workshops at local schools and also invited everyone to have a go at spray paint art at Goldthorpe Pentecostal Community Church during February half-term.

The library wall mural will include images of wildlife native to the Dearne, as well as references to the area’s heritage and fun stencil designs created with children at school workshops.

The rear wall of the square will feature the words “Learn from the past, look to the future”, while leaving some of the original brickwork bare.

Public painting day

You can now sign up to our public painting day - and we’d love as many people as possible from the Dearne to help bring the vision to life.

When: 20 minute slots bewteen 12pm & 4pm on Saturday 26 April

(Please note there are up to 3 places available per timeslot)

Booking is essential, as time slots on the day will be limited.

The painting session is for ages 8 and over.

Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult.

Wear clothes that you don’t mind getting messy.

Face masks, gloves, goggles, aprons and all materials will be provided.

Public artwork in Goldthorpe

This is one of two major artwork projects underway in the Dearne area, which are both funded by the Goldthorpe Town Deal.

This is a £23.1 million investment from the UK Government’s Towns Fund in revitalising Goldthorpe, Bolton upon Dearne and Thurnscoe.

Sculptor Dan Jones – supported by emerging artist Ailish Treanor – is drawing up a design for another landmark artwork. This will be installed at the new roundabout at the western gateway to Goldthorpe.

This has been shaped by consultation with community groups across the Dearne.
