Horsham - Anxiety and Depression in Young People (for people working with children and young people)
Friday, 2 December 2016 from 09:30 to 12:30 (GMT)
San Francisco, California
London, United Kingdom
This is a half-day course for people working with children and young people in West Sussex.
This course is being delivered through a partnership between Coastal West Sussex Mind, YMCA Downslink Group and West Sussex County Council.
Down But Not Out (Anxiety & Depression in Young People).
75% of adult mental health issues begin to develop before a young person reaches 18 years old.
Anxiety and depression/low mood, often co-existing, are the most prevalent and pervasive mental health issues for children & young people living in our communities. Why is that?
- This workshop will clarify what is happening for young people living with anxiety and depression and how you can respond helpfully
- We will raise your self awareness of the issues and look at the stigma often surrounding the issues
- It will be a forum for discussion of individual experiences and shared strategies that we can use when living and working with young people
- We will discuss risk and resilience factors and identify useful resources and websites

We aim to promote good mental health through the provision of high quality services and through campaigning to improve services, raise awareness and understanding.
Our services support young people, adults, older adults, carers and families affected by mental health problems. We offer help and advice to people around improving their physical and mental well-being, strengthening their self-esteem and confidence, building strong relationships with family, friends and communities, getting into education, training and work and achieving their personal and social goals.
We also work actively in local communities to raise awareness about mental health and tackle the stigma and discrimination.
