Horsham LGBT+ Public Consultation
Following the successful engagement at Horsham Pride within the Friday Night Lates events last year, Crawley LGBT CIC has observed an increased demand for LGBT+ initiatives and secure spaces in Horsham.
In response, Crawley LGBT CIC has proposed to Horsham District Council an expansion of its community interest company and project-based outreach services into Horsham. This aims to enhance the sense of Pride within the town and reinforce the existing LGBT+ community. Subject to a favorable outcome of the public consultation, Crawley LGBT CIC intends to formally amend its company name to reflect this expanded scope and reach.
Crawley LGBT CIC will undertake a comprehensive process to ascertain the specific requirements of the LGBT+ community in Horsham. This will involve online and public consultations to:
- Identify and understand the demographic composition of Horsham's LGBT+ population.
- Evaluate the health and wellbeing issues pertinent to this community.
- Determine the support and resources most required.
- Understand the preferred projects and events of the current LGBT+ community in Horsham and their rationale.
Subsequent to the public consultation, the community interest company will conduct a targeted recruitment drive to engage Horsham residents as volunteers, project leaders, and company directors. The inclusion of Horsham-based individuals is paramount to ensure the representation of local perspectives, ideas, and values. This recruitment will result in the appointment of two Horsham-based Company Directors, Project Leaders, and a volunteer team for the company's Steering Committee.
Concurrently, the company plans to launch a Horsham-based project, marking the formal establishment of their Horsham LGBT division. This strategic endeavor demonstrates Crawley LGBT CIC's commitment to community expansion, inclusivity, and support for the LGBT+ population in both Crawley and Horsham.
The expansion is being spearheaded by Company Manager, Vincent Wootton, who states:
“This is an exceptional opportunity. We have been designated as the representative voice for a significant, yet frequently underrepresented community. As Company Manager of Crawley LGBT CIC, I am dedicated to removing regional barriers, fostering inter-community connections, and advocating for numerous LGBT+ individuals who face consistent marginalization.”
